Operative hysteroscopy also has an important role in the management of unexplained and recurrent implantation failure in the context of assisted reproduction techniques and IVF: there is global consensus that surgically induced endometrial injury during hysteroscopy (“endometrial scratch”, “endometrial cuts”, “implantation cuts”) can significally improve implantation and clinical pregnancy rates.
The most common goal of operative hysteroscopy is the surgical treatment of congenital (uterine septum) or acquired anatomical abnormalities (adhesions, polyps, fibroids etc) of the body of the uterus and the uterine cavity, as well as the surgical management of chronic abnormal uterine bleeding.
